Il s'agit très probablement, bien qu'il n'y ait pas de certitude, d'un portrait de Bertrand L'OFFICIAL. En 1880, suite à son service dans la Royale, Bertrand L'OFFICIAL embarqua à Saïgon comme mâtelot sur un trois mâts pour rentrer en France. Au cours de ce voyage il fit escale en Australie. Il avait alors 22 ans.
